The bony core of the body is not just something to
hang our muscles and flesh on, like a coat-hanger,
but a deeply sensitive and intricate structure, shaped
by our instinctive energetic habits as well as by
gravity. The joints are precision instruments,
designed to help us achieve free movement under
accurate control. In this workshop we will explore
some of the following topics:
• Interrelationships of joints;
• Practical techniques for releasing joints;
• The energetics of joints – kyo and jitsu in local
meridians and points;
• Examples of classical point combinations for
specific joints;
• Physical and psychological conditions which may
influence the state of the joints, according to the
CM and Zen Shiatsu models; and
• Joints and structure seen in the context of each
individual’s overall diagnosis, rather than purely
physical mechanisms.
Clearly some of these issues can only be touched
upon in the time allowed; they are mentioned in
order to clarify the workshop approach. We will be
working in the standard Shiatsu way, on mats on
the floor. A working knowledge of the classical
meridians and some points will be helpful, though
not essential. |
