Using Legal Prohibitions Against Torture Rita Maran & Marc Pilisuk

This workshop is intended to provide participants with both factual knowledge about and understanding of the US government's responses to allegations of torture. We will look at national and international legal commitments against torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, in order to consider the potential help that knowledge of their rights can be to trauma survivors and to legal and psychological professionals working with them. Knowledge of these same conventions can be a valuable tool in working to bring about government adherence to the rule of law.
