Ethical Dilemnas for Psychologists: The APA and Interrogations Alice Shaw and Thomas Rosbrow

Psychologists have wittingly and unwittingly contributed to human rights abuses. In an effort to stop this complicity, and to turn toward, rather than away from the moral dilemmas confronting us, a group of psychologists/psychoanalysts/psychotherapists have been struggling to challenge and change the stance of the American Psychological Association (APA) regarding the participation of psychologists in interrogations of detainees at facilities which do not comply with the highest international standards of human rights. Two members of Psychologists for an Ethical APA will discuss the history of the abuses, the movement to stop complicity, and the points of confusion and ethical ambiguity.
