Our African Journey Belvie Rooks, Dedan Gills

We stood in a slave dungeon on a recent trip to West Africa, overwhelmed by despair, grief and rage. A passage from Saidiya Hatman’s Lose Your Mother: A Journey Along the Atlantic Slave Route lifted our our hearts, while giving birth to a vision of hope and transformative possibility. Hear our story and our vision of healing the planet and bearing silent witness, one tree at a time along the slave route. We have returned. We do remember.
