The Rights of Nature Biggs, Linzey, Margil, Melo

 
Just over a year ago, the people of Ecuador voted in a new constitution that made the country the very first in the world to recognize the Rights of Nature in its constitution, and in so doing, made Ecuador the first country to base its system of environmental protection on rights. So far, approximately a dozen communities in the U.S. have adopted laws recognizing Rights of Nature.
