Over the last few years it has been notice that iodine insufficiency is associated with a higher risk of numerous disease, far reaching beyond the thyroid. Insufficiency of iodine in the body is a known precursor for development of cancer, cystic disease, cognitive impairment, mood disorders and halogen imbalances throughout the body. Public health discussion on fluoride, bromide and chloride daily intake and the impact on pre-existing iodine insufficiency and the growing documentation of overt deficiency that has grown progressively over the last two decades. A review of the medical literature concerning the above will be presented.
