(PS5) On the Way to the Happiness Land...Long Before I Was Born: Rebuilding Our Humanity through Storytelling—Coumba Touré Sparking imagination and strengthening citizenship in children, both locally and globally, is of critical importance in the 21st century. This challenge is linked to a broader effort that enables and encourages young adults around the world to contribute to decision-making and problem-solving in their respective societies. In this session, Coumba shares African wisdom stories and traditions based on the indigenous value system. You will come to understand how to encourage and inspire young people from any culture to create their own learning tools and social change projects and to use popular education as a means to inspire social and environmental justice. Coumba Touré is an educator, change-maker, writer, artist, and speaker who focuses on popular education as a means to spread social justice. She has facilitated hundreds of educational workshops worldwide on gender, race, economic justice, AIDS, and advocacy. She is currently a representative for Ashoka, the world's largest network of social entrepreneurs, and is based in Dakar, in the Sahel region in West Africa.
