The New Human Biotechnologies Thompson, Kimbrell, Darnovsky

Uneasiness about the new human biotechnologies is often expressed as concern about "playing God." This is a shorthand often dismissed by Progressives, but one that in fact begins to get at the intersection of social, political, economic, moral and spiritual questions that these technologies pose. Among other questions, this workshop will ask how we can reap the benefits of biomedical technologies without fostering either a high-tech market-based eugenics or a high-tech "designer medicine" that only the wealthy can afford.
