Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath demonstrate the devastating consequences
of climate change, particularly on low-income communities of color. This
workshop will touch on the disproportionate impact that people of color face in
the climate crisis and discuss policies to achieve climate justice as well as
opportunities in communities like New Orleans to envision a just transition
toward rebuilding our economies in a way that is safe, healthy, and clean.
Beyond Katrina the panelists will discuss the environmental health and
economic impacts that Latinos in particular face from climate change including
asthma, mercury poisoning, and rising energy costs.
